Frequently Asked Question

What do I need to do before taking my scouts on a trip?

Official Boy Scouts of America policy requires that you file a "Local Tour Permit Application" with the local service center at least two weeks prior to your trip, if it takes you less than 500 miles from home. An approved application is required for you and your scouts to be covered under the BSA's liability insurance. If your trip requires traveling more than 500 miles, or takes you out of the United States, you must file a "National Tour Permit Application", instead. Additionally, if your trip involves camping, you must have at least one adult leader with you who has completed the official BSA Outdoor Leader Training course. Both tour applications are available from the "Links & Resources" page of this site.
